'betzavta' by itay kirshenbaum

'betzavta' is a social and environmental project by israeli product designer itay kirshenbaum which deals with active experience in a communal gardens. the project gives solutions for improvisations that are presented in the area of garden furniture. as part of his industrial design final project at hadassah college in israel, he developed a new method to create garden furniture in a simple and easy way. the garden workers will receive a flat canvas bag that contains a mixture of concrete powder. on the product there are pockets that contain a system of wires that will allow the user to shape the flat canvas into the final desired 3d shape. the user spreads the product out on the ground, wets it with a hose which then penetrates the canvas and wets the concrete mixture. finally when the watering process is finished, the user pulls the wires and creates the 3d shape. after 24 hours of drying when the final shape is ready, the furniture becomes a part of the garden. at every level of preparation there is an opportunity for team work for all ages and at the end the user gets a set of furniture that includes stools and tables.

in an attempt to prolong the life of the traditional brick industry by re-using old machinery, taiwanese nexus design studio
changes the fundamental relationship between brick and cement. by re-designing new moulds on re-purposed industrial
machines to fit the prevalent electrical kilns, the exercise brings to life a collection of furniture that includes a table and series
of chairs. when sandwiched together, the structural components contrast one another as they seamlessly connect at the joints.
