  • Sistema plegable de rueda La rueda está compuesta por seis módulos, cada uno tiene un doble pivote en las articulaciones, esto permite que la rueda se pliegue y se hacen más pequeñas, las radios están contenidos en la estructura interna de la rueda, cuando se despliegan el sistema, la radios giran hacia el centro del mecanismo en el que se adhieren a la centro de la rueda.


  • Estructura del sistema de bicicletas La estructura de doble triangule está compuesto por módulos expansibles, cada uno de colapsos a una dimensión más pequeña y luego estos módulos se alinean por la rotación del eje en la articulación de la estructura, para mantener en la posición de toda la estructura se utiliza una parte especial en una forma de una X que alinea todos los módulos a su posición.

If Israeli industrial design student Dror Peleg had been around in the late 1950s, I feel sure that his Frii plastic bike concept would have found its way into Mosanto's House of the Future. Over 50 years later, that vision of a world of plastic has also given rise to some serious disposal issues and grave environmental concerns. Frii proposes to be part of the solution, not the problem. Made from recycled plastic, the city cycling concept would be manufactured locally for local use. Components would be injection molded into modular shapes that snap together to form a strong, lightweight and very colorful single-speed bike for quick trips through the city streets.
For the final project for his industrial design degree at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, Israel, Peleg looked to create a product of use to locals which can be made locally instead of being imported from elsewhere. The process of injection molding is widespread in Israel, being used to make everything from garden furniture to tables and chairs to storage units. The designer therefore embarked on a project to make use of existing facilities (rather than opting for new technologies like 3D printing) to manufacture the components needed for a wholly plastic bike, which he says would be less energy and labor intensive than traditional bike manufacture.

Rather than add to the enormous plastic waste disposal problems that are the behind nightmare disasters like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, the designer envisions using various recycled plastics for the Frii bicycle. The modular design centers around the familiar diamond-shaped frame found in many modern bikes, as well as plastic pioneers like the Innervision concept we featured a few years back, but with a pyramid of plastic ribs to strengthen the structure and offer some eye-catching aesthetics.
Peleg told Gizmag that "the frame is the largest part but the molds required for it are not much larger then a plastic chair molds."
To the bottom of the split frame sits the pedal crank, which would have bearings inserted into the mold before the injection process begins. A belt runs from this to the rear wheel hub. There are no external brakes as such on Frii, Peleg says that he sees such matters being handled in a similar way to the way BMX hub braking operates - when a rider pedals backwards, the bike comes to a halt. The forks to the 20-inch plastic wheels are kept short for added strength and the solid tires are injected over the rims during manufacture.
The uncomfortable-looking saddle would be made in different sizes to suit different riders and, like much of the design, would snap into place. The young designer does point out, however, that his creation was not designed for the rigors of off-road cycling or racing but for the smoother ride offered by city streets. The chosen manufacturing process would also appear to lend itself to various custom color configurations. Additionally, the Frii bike could be recycled at the end of its useful life, perhaps into another model.

Peleg has produced a non-working 1:1 scale model to take the design off the computer screen into the real world but says that preparing the vehicle for prototyping and production was beyond his design brief and such endeavors would require some more design and engineering work.
As such, we see any future development of the project as likely needing to take a closer look at some of those stress points in the current design, as well as giving some serious consideration to the actual strength and rigidity of the construction materials used, towards the rear in particular.

Pasión por desarmar


En todos esos fantásticos juegos para niños donde se construyen y arman cosas, en el famoso LEGO o en el legendario Mecano, se alberga la idea que ‘construir cosa’ es definitivamente una capacidad que podemos desarrollar todos. Al mismo tiempo, construir desde muy pequeños lleva una gigantesca y esperanzadora imagen de manos y mentes capaces de construir en el futuro.
Hace algún tiempo, en el artículo Anatomía de los objetos: explotando partes o comunicando la función, vimos como la visualización de partes y componentes de un objeto, gracias al dibujo en el estudio de la perspectiva axonométrica, ha representado para la civilización una poderosa manera de entender como funcionan las cosas.
Things Come Apart: A Teardown Manual for Modern Living es una expansión del trabajo originalDisassembly Series del fotógrafo canadiense Todd McLellan. Se trata de un libro que expone el funcionamiento interno de 50 objetos cotidianos y donde aparecen 21.959 componentes individuales, en composiciones fotográficas planas. Parecen los restos de objetos de diferentes épocas colocados como un testimonio de la obsolescencia programada. Things Come Apart acaba de ser publicado por la editorial Thames & Hudson.
Los objetos que aparecen en esta publicación incluyen un iPad, una bicicleta y hasta un piano. Un catálogo de la belleza, implícita en las intrincadas y eficientes formas que descubrimos cuando desarmamos algún artefacto. Un testimonio visual de la tecnología, agazapado en los productos de uso cotidiano.

Con esta misma idea de desarmar objetos, Evan Currie, uno de mis alumnos en el Taller de Diseño Junior Technology Design en Pratt Institute, desarrolló una familia de herramientas que sirven para desarmar. El taller estuvo orientado al diseño de herramientas (tools) en varios escenarios. La idea de Evan fue explorar el diseño de herramientas para niños utilizando la metáfora de la disección científica de animales, una práctica común en los laboratorios de ciencia de educación media en todo el mundo.

En los procesos de ‘buscar para ver’ y ‘desarmar para saber’,  parecieran estar algunas claves para despertar la curiosidad necesaria en los procesos creativos. Pistas que provienen de desarmar las cosas a nuestro alrededor para comprender de que y como están hechos.
Nadie tiene duda de la fascinación que todos hemos tenido en algún momento por armar o construir cosas. Pero no es menos cierto que el proceso inverso de la construcción ha sido mucho más ingenioso. Una forma de conocer el funcionamiento de los artefactos. Una manera efectiva de comprender los aspectos más íntimos de la configuración física de productos y objetos.

Reinventar la rueda.

Six years ago, industrial designer Sam Pearce was sitting in an airport when "I saw a mother pushing her child in a buggy," he writes. "The front wheel hit a slight kerb [sic] and the child jolted forward because of the impact. It happened several times in the time I was waiting there." He then did what many ID'ers do, which is to find the nearest piece of paper and sketch out a potential solution. What he drew in his notebook was this:

Two years later, while off-road cycling, he remembered the sketch and began thinking if a suspension system like that could be built into a bike wheel. Now, many years of tinkering later, what Pearce has come up with is this:

It's called the Loopwheel, and its system of "tangential suspension"—essentially leaf springs folded back in on themselves—are not only workable, but they provide a gentler ride over sharp obstacles due to physics:

For now, Pearce is focusing on developing Loopwheels for smaller bikes, because the design "[allows] suspension where suspension can't normally fit," as with a folding bike design.

Last month Pearce debuted his creation at the UK's Bespoked Bicycle show. Response was tremendous, and he's now seeking Kickstarter funding to get the Loopwheel into proper production; up until now he's been making them as one-offs in his shop.
One of the cool things about Pearce's Kickstarter video is that he not only shows you the Loopwheel, but also shows the simple machines he's rigged up to test them out:

Pearce has nearly reached his funding goal—at press time he was just £4,000 shy of the £40,000 target—but interested pledgers still have until May 15th to buy in.

Customization for the masses may appear odious to some designers, but French designer Tristan Kopp has found a way to preserve the essence of a product while providing end users with the flexibility for personalization. prodUser Bicycle System is a modular system that allows individuals to combine various components – connectors, framework, and extra add-ons – of their choice in creating a custom bicycle. The beauty is in the freedom of the system, dubbed “open-source” like software counterparts, which can be employed and adapted without the usual jaw-dropping price tag. The system, samples, and literal blueprints are currently showcased inIstanbul’s Design Biennale.
